United Nations regional seminar on the promotion and utilization of census results and on the revision of the principles and recommendations for population and housing censuses

UNSD in collaboration with Statistics South Africa, the African Development Bank, UNFPA and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa African Centre for Statistics, is organizing a Regional Seminar on Promotion and Utilization of Census Results and on the revision of the Principles and Recommendations for Population and Housing Censuses.
The objectives of the Regional Seminar is to discuss lessons learnt and share national experience from the 2010 round of population and housing censuses with regard to effective strategies for promoting the dissemination and utilization of census data. The regional seminar will also provide an opportunity to gather the input of African countries towards the revision of the United Nations Principles and Recommendations for Population and Housing Censuses.
The knowledge shared during the Regional Seminar will enable participating countries to promote utilization of their census data from the 2010 round and to better plan and develop strategies for utilization of data from censuses conducted during the 2020 round.
Conference on the assessment of the 2010 round of population and housing censuses in Africa

The United Nations Statistics Division will co-organize, with United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, African Development Bank, African Union Commission and UNFPA a Conference on Assessment of 2010 Round of Population and Housing Censuses in Africa that will take place in Pretoria, South Africa, 29 April - 1 May 2013. The Conference will aim at taking stock of the population and housing censuses in Africa in the period 2005-2014 and provide a regional input for a global assessment of the census round.
Regional workshop on population projections for English-speaking African Countries

Within the framework of the 2010 World Programme on Population and Housing Censuses, the United Nations Statistics Division will conduct a Regional Workshop on Population Projections for English Speaking African Countries, in Pretoria, South Africa, from 29 October - 2 November 2012. The purpose of the workshop is to provide training to statisticians from national statistical authorities in Africa in producing projections of population based on census results.
Seminar on developing a programme for the implementation of the 2008 SNA and supporting statistics in Southern Africa

The United Nations Statistics Division (DESA/SD), in collaboration with the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UN-ECA) and the Southern African Development Community (SADC), is organizing a seminar on: Developing a programme for the implementation of the 2008 SNA and supporting statistics in Southern Africa. The objective of the seminar is to assist Southern African countries with initiating the formulation of a national strategy and implementation programme for the 2008 SNA and supporting system-wide socio-economic statistics with the objective of strengthening the national statistical system in support of improved policy making. It is expected that this initiative would lead to a multi-year statistical programme to move the countries over to the 2008 SNA and to establish a minimum common data set of annual and high frequency statistics.
Workshop in South Africa for the institutionalization of water accounts and statistics

The objective of the workshop is to provide focalized technical assistance to some countries in southern Africa for the institutionalization of water accounts and statistics. The workshop will be based on the System of Environmental-Economic Accounting for Water (SEEA-Water) and the International Recommendations for Water Statistics (IRWS), which have been adopted by the United Nations Statistics Commission (UNSC).
The workshop will be jointly organized by the United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD) and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA). The participants include experts from the National Statistics Offices and Water Agencies from Botswana, Mauritius, Namibia, South Africa and Zimbabwe.
Advanced training workshop in SAS software applications

This five-day intensive course, organized by the UN Statistics Division in close collaboration with Statistics South Africa in the context of the UN/DESA Development Account project for SADC member states, aims at strengthening IT skills in the National statistical offices as well as providing all SADC member states with a common understanding of IT related data editing issues which creates the possibility that the NSOs find common software solutions in the future.
