Workshop for the UNSD-DfID project on improving the collation, availability and dissemination of national development indicators, including MDGs

The workshop Country Data: Building better dissemination systems for national development indicators, organized by UNSD, will take place from 21 - 25 April in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

This workshop is the fourth in a series of international workshops planned by the UNSD-DFID Project on “Improving the collation, availability and dissemination of national development indicators, including MDGs”. The series of workshops has served to build capacity around implementing the Statistical Data and Metadata eXchange (SDMX) dissemination model promoted by the project.

The fourth workshop will, in particular, look at complex issues and advanced topics in SDMX mapping and exchange. It will also focus on metadata and its use in discrepancy analysis, with a long term view to reducing discrepancies between national and international development data. The training will be led by UNSD and will bring together statistical and IT project focal points from the 11 countries participating in the project.

United Nations national workshop on CensusInfo for Cambodia

Organized by the United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD) in collaboration with the Cambodia National Institute of Statistics, the workshop is aimed at training staff at the national statistical office in the full potential of CensusInfo as a platform for disseminating census data at any geographical level. The workshop is intended to develop the national CensusInfo application, with accompanying databases and customized features; it will involve fifteen professionals from the NIS. The workshop is part of the series of national training workshops developed by UNSD aiming at developing and putting in place national CensuInfo applications for dissemination of population and housing census statistics using contemporary technology.

United Nations sub-regional workshop on Census Data evaluation

The United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD) in cooperation with the Cambodian Institute of Statistics will organize a Workshop on Census Data Evaluation from 14 to 17 November 2011 in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. This workshop will be organized within the framework of the UN/DESA Development Account project for strengthening the statistical capacity of countries in South-East Asia. The objectives of the workshop are to strengthen the technical capacity of the participating countries to identify types of errors in census data and to apply methods of evaluating the quality of census data. Representatives from national statistical offices of Cambodia, Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Myanmar, Timor-Leste and Viet Nam are invited to the workshop. The workshop will also provide the forum to discuss national practices and to exchange experiences and lessons learned among the participating countries.

Workshop on the methodology and data compilation of international merchandise trade statistics

This UN/DESA workshop on the Methodology and Data Compilation of International Merchandise Trade Statistics (IMTS) aims to strengthen the statistical capacity of the five South East Asian countries Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Timor Leste and Vietnam in the area of IMTS, in particular with respect to data collection and compilation, and the application of the concepts and definitions for IMTS (covering both existing and new or revised recommendations). The workshop is organized by the United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD) in cooperation with the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN/ESCAP) and the National Statistical Institute of Cambodia which will host this workshop. Countries are expected to develop country specific action plans which will serve as guidance for national data compilers to improve IMTS compilation and dissemination.
