| Technical
notes |
| |
Contraceptive prevalence pertains to current
use of contraceptives by currently married women or women currently
in a union, unless otherwise indicated, and includes all contraceptive
methods, traditional as well as modern. Data on contraceptive
use are taken mainly from representative national sample surveys
of women of reproductive age.
The total fertility rate is defined as the number
of children that would be born to a woman if she were to live
to the end of her childbearing years and bear children at each
age in accordance with prevailing age-specific fertility rates.
Births per 1,000 women aged 15-19 refers to the number of children
born alive in one year per 1,000 women aged 15-19. These two indicators
are estimates and projections prepared by the Population Division
of the United Nations Secretariat and are given as averages for
the period 2000-2005.
