Lucia Scuro

Biography

Lucía Scuro Somma is a sociologist, graduated from the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of the Republic, Uruguay and Master in Sociology from the State University of Campiñas, Brazil. She has worked with the United Nations Population Fund; as Coordinator of the Gender Information System of the National Institute of Women in the Ministry of Social Development of Uruguay; as a teacher and researcher in the Department of Sociology of the Faculty of Social Sciences and the Master's Degree in Sociology and the Diploma in Gender and Public Policy of the Faculty of Social Sciences. She has also worked in the field of non-governmental organizations, and in multidisciplinary and articulation spaces of public and private organizations.

She is currently a Senior Social Affairs Officer at the Division for Gender Affairs at the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean, where she leads the work in the area of women's economic autonomy. She coordinates technical support to countries on public policies on care and gender equality, and among other issues, monitors the progress of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development on gender equality issues.
