Fatouma Sissoko

Biography

Fatouma sissoko is working as gender statistics specialist at the African Centre for Statistics of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) in Addis Ababa. She joined the UN in 2002 and has been posted in various countries, including UN Population Division in New York, UNECA Sub-Regional office for West Africa based in Niger and UNECA HQ in Addis Ababa.

Her UN career encompasses coordinating gender statistics activities in the African Centre for statistics of UNECA, development of training materials on gender statistics, technical support to member states in order to mainstream gender into their statistical system and strengthen their statistical capacity on methodological issues. To this end, she is coordinating the continental gender statistics programme called African Programme on Gender Statistics (APGS) and is involved in various methodological work and activities at global, regional and national levels aiming to improve availability of SDGs gender related indicators. She is also working on the improvement of civil registration and vital statistics systems in African region, including mainstreaming gender into CRVS and is actively involved in the implementation of various demographic and social statistics programmes aiming to improve availability of quality data in African continent.

Before joining the UN, Ms. Sissoko worked as demographer at the Centre for studies and research on population for development (CERPOD) of Institute for Sahel (INSAH) where she was involved in population studies and research, survey management and data collection and analysis.

Fatouma has a master degree in Econometrics from ENA Mali and a master of Sciences in Demography from Montreal University.
