Biography
Desiree Manamela is currently the Chief Director for Labour Statistics within Stats SA. Over 10 years’ experience in labour statistics and in the design and implementation of surveys (including data analysis, report writing and dissemination) as well as add-on modules (e.g. child labour, volunteer work, informal sector, time use surveys) attached to the Labour Force Survey. She has participated in international workshops on work, employment and labour underutilisation statistics. She possesses a Bachelor of Commerce degree in Econometrics from the University of Pretoria and a Master’s Degree in Statistics from the University of Makerere in Uganda. She has experience working with the International Labour Organisation on different projects on work statistics.
