Adriana Oropeza

Biography

Adriana Oropeza is a Mexican economist, with 28 years of experience in the design and implementation of tools and practices to address information and policy needs in the social, economic, and environmental realms, at the crossroads of NSOs, government, business, and academia. For the past 14 years, she has worked at Mexico’s National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) as Technical Coordinator and adviser for the Vice-presidencies in charge of Socio-demographic (2017 – to date), Economic (2013-2017), and Geographic and Environmental Information (2008-2013).

Currently, she leads a wide range of activities and committees to coordinate, facilitate and enhance the production, integration and use of statistical and geographic information in support of national and international priorities, including 69 SDG indicators and their disaggregation, in close interaction with line ministries, business and academia at the national, regional and global levels to provide evidence for better policies and targeted interventions.

Throughout her career, Ms. Oropeza has also served as director of the Mexico chapter of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development; as advisor and Chief of Staff to Mexico’s Secretary of the Environment and Natural Resources (SEMARNAT), at the Secretariat of Agriculture and Rural Development (SADER), and as consultant for the Japanese International Cooperation agency. At the multilateral level, she has contributed to several expert groups, as a consultant and as country delegate in international negotiations.
