Classification structure
2 (a)Please describe the structure of the classification: How many levels does the classification have? (Please provide labels, such as “Division”, “Class”) How many categories exist at each level?The LSIC which is based on the International Standard Industrial Classification of All Economic Activities (ISIC) is a hierarchical five digit system. LSIC is divided into 21 sections and each section is denoted by a single letter from A to U. The letters of the sections can be defined by the next breakdown, the divisions (denoted by 2 digits). The divisions are then broken down into groups (3 digits), into classes (4 digits) and then into subclasses (5 digits). There are 88 divisions, 239 groups, 470 classes and 894 subclasses.

3 (c)Please describe deviations from the international standard (in terms of structure, methodology or application rules). Please use examples, if a general statement is not possible.To the four digit level, the structure of LSIC is very similar to ISIC (Rev. 4). However, a fifth digit has been added and the classification categories and code numbers have been adapted to reflect the Lao circumstances.
For example, ISIC division 1010, Processing and preserving of meat while the LSIC divided this Class into 3 Classes, 1011 Slaughtering and packing of meat (except poultry); 1012 Slaughtering and packing of poultry meat; 1013 Processing and preserving meat and poultry meat products.
3 (d)At what level of the international standard can data be reported for international comparison? (Please provide examples of programmes / indicators if reporting takes place at different levels of the classification.)For International comparison data can be report at 4 digit, but for use in national data report at 5 digit.
3 (e)If no links to international classifications exist or no international standard is used, please state if there are plans to use international norms in the future. 
Classification uses
4 (a)Please state for which statistical purposes (surveys etc.) this classification is used and if there are users outside of the Statistical Office. Please indicate at which level the classification is used for data collection and for data publishing.The LSIC has been used for many purposes i.e., for census – Economic Census, and for surveys – Lao Expenditure and Comsumption Survey, Labor Force Survey, etc.
Most of classification level is used for data collection is 5- digit level.
4 (b)Please give the names of institutions that use the classification for non-statistical purposes (as opposed to statistical purposes in question 4(a)). Also indicate the kind of use (e.g. tax offices, social security, customs, enterprise register, employment services, work permits etc.)A key user of the LSIC for non-statistical purposes is the Ministry of Industrial and Commerce, Ministry of Finance.
