- 1st digit in the code: 10 major groups
- 2nd digit in the code: 42 sub-major groups
- 3rd digit in the code: 121 minor groups
- 4th digit in the code: 406 unit groups

(e.g. have additional levels been added to the international standard or have changes been made within the level of the international structure, such as aggregations or additional breakdowns)The Norwegian classification differs from ISCO-08 because unit groups not relevant for the national labour market are removed from the national classification.

Please use examples, if a general statement is not possible.Examples of unit groups removed are: subsistence farmers (crop, livestock), subsistence fishers, hunters, trappers and gatherers, drivers of animal-drawn vehicles and machinery.
