Regional accounts are part of the European System of Accounts (ESA 95). With national accounts they share the concepts of calculating statistical indicators which are used by competent organizations to assess the economic situation and to make appropriate decisions. Regional accounts data support decision-making at the level of regional policy, the purpose of which is to reduce social and economic disparities among the EU Member States and their regions. Welfare and economic development potential of regions can vary; therefore, well-balanced regional policy, the basis of which is the territorial regulation, is necessary for reducing the disparities.
