IT is applied extensively throughout the statistical processes in the Census and Statistics Department, including sampling frame maintenance, data collection, data processing, data analysis and data dissemination.

Regarding e-government initiatives, the department focuses on the development in three main business areas, namely data collection, data dissemination and application of statistics, as well as internal operations.

IT advancement opens up new application opportunities in statistical work for efficiency improvement, business process re-engineering and systems integration. To support the implementation of various strategic IT applications and maximise the benefits of the continuous IT development, the department has further enhanced its IT organisation and management structure.
