This paper describes improvements to Australian Bureau of Statistics quarterly business indicators implemented in 2001. These improvements resulted from the integration of the surveys of Company Profits; Inventories, Sales and Services; and the private sector component of Employment and Earnings into a single survey called the Quarterly Economic Activity Survey. Details future developments, along with implications for time series and the publication and release strategy.
