Task Teams

The substantive work of GIST is organized around the following three task teams and two working groups:

Task Team 1
Addressing specific NSO demands

Task Team 1 supports NSOs in identifying, prioritizing, and addressing their training needs through practical tools, guidance, and peer learning. Its work centers on promoting NSO-led capacity development by strengthening training planning, implementation, and knowledge exchange across countries. In response to expressed NSO needs, the task team has supported the development and rollout of the Statistical Training Assessment Tool (STAT).

Task Team 2
Learning culture and sharing of knowledge

Task Team 2 works to embed learning and knowledge sharing into the everyday culture of NSOs and NSSs. By promoting informal learning, practical guidance, and shared understanding, the team supports organizations in creating environments where continuous learning and collaboration can thrive.

Task Team 3
Innovation and Data literacy

The Innovation and Data Literacy Task Team works to drive the harmonization, delivery, reuse, adaptation, and dissemination of competency-building resources, ensuring the global statistical community effectively responds to the demands of the modern data ecosystem—including AI, emerging tools, and new data sources. The team's actions reflect a comprehensive approach to developing statistical literacy by integrating the diverse contextual literacies required to navigate modern data pressures, as well as advancing training initiatives that foster technological readiness and empower the community to anticipate shifts and successfully utilize cutting-edge methodologies.

Task Team 4
Translation

The Translation Group works to expand access to GIST learning materials by supporting structured, coordinated translation into multiple languages. Through shared frameworks and collaboration, the group helps ensure learning resources are accessible and usable across diverse country contexts.
