This side event will focus on experiences in learning and capacity building on small area estimation, highlighting how national statistical offices and partners are strengthening skills and institutional capacity to apply SAE in practice. Drawing on country experiences and training initiatives, the event will explore what has worked, common challenges, and lessons learned in building sustainable capacity for SAE, including the integration of survey and geospatial data. The discussion will also consider how peer learning, technical guidance, and partnerships can support countries in moving from training to regular, production-level use of small area estimation.
Description: This virtual side event during the UN Statistical Commission will focus on the post–Copenhagen Framework phase, highlighting how the Framework is being translated into practice through knowledge sharing, peer learning, and country-led implementation. It will provide an overview of emerging tools, guidance, and knowledge-sharing activities that support national statistical offices and partners in operationalizing the Framework’s principles across different contexts. The session will also create space to reflect on lessons learned since the launch of the Framework, discuss opportunities for work at the regional and subregional level,, identify priority areas for further methodological development and capacity building, and strengthen collaboration and support for sustaining momentum beyond the initial framework-setting phase.
