China/UN Ceremony at Shanghai World EXPO Will Celebrate WSD
31 Aug 2010 - An event to mark WSD will be organized jointly by the National Bureau of
Statistics (NBS) of China and the United
Nations on 20 October at the United Nations Pavilion of the World EXPO
Shanghai 2010. This ceremony featuring high-level officials of China and
the UN will include the press launch of two major statistical reports, one
by the UN on the current situation of women worldwide 15 years after
Beijing’s World Conference on Women, and a second book by NBS presenting
statistical indicators in China.
The NBS, in collaboration with China Post will also issue a commemorative
World Statistics Day stamp on this occasion.
The 2010 World EXPO is a very symbolic venue to highlight the achievements
of official statistics worldwide. With dedicated pavilions dedicated to
its 192 participating countries and territories, and to 50 international
organizations, the Shanghai Expo displays a multitude of exhibitions and
cultural activities encompassing the whole world.
The observance of WSD in Shanghai will be the final event in a month-long
celebration in China on official statistics which includes exhibitions and
special publications at the national and provincial level. This event also
marks the final preparations for the population census scheduled for 1
November 2010.
