Hans Rosling Special Guest Speaker in Palestinian Territories WSD
4 October 2010 -- Swedish Professor Hans Rosling has been a pioneer in using information technology to popularize international statistics among the general public. He will be a special guest speaker at an event organized by the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS) to celebrate World Statistics Day. Prof. Rosling is expected to show the power of statistics through data visualization, with his popular animations converting complex statistics into moving bubbles that reveal clear global trends. The session will also feature Juraj Riecan, Director of ESCWA's Statistics Division. PCBS will also give special awards to journalists who made the best news stories while using the Bureau’s statistics, during a round-table on cooperation between statisticians and the media. Another WSD event will debate the role of official statistics in providing information that helps planning and decision-making. Activities to mark WSD will be held under the auspices of His Excellency Dr. Salam Fayyad, Prime Minister of the Palestinian Authority.
