WSD in Italy Commences with Message from Italian President
3 September 2010 – The list of actions to mark World Statistics Day undertaken by the
National Institute of Statistics of Italy (ISTAT) includes a special message from the President of the Republic, Mr. Giorgio Napolitano, and messages by the Minister for Public Administration to central and local governments.
A high-level conference is also scheduled in ISTAT Headquarters in cooperation with the Italian Society of Statistics.
The Conference of Rectors of Italian Universities also plans to celebrate WSD in a number of universities.
ISTAT’s WSD activities will focus on the needs for “user-friendly” data collection and dissemination tailored to users’ needs while respecting scientific accuracy and statistical confidentiality.
In Italy, even if ISTAT is the main producer of official statistics, more than 3,000 different bodies participate in the National Statistical System, including statistical offices based in ministries, autonomous institutions and large national organizations.
