The seminar, organized by the United Nations Statistics Division and Statistics Norway as the convener of the Oslo Group on Energy Statistics, will discuss the need for international recommendations for energy statistics, present challenges in developing these recommendations, emphasize the importance of making energy statistics an integral part of official statistics, and discuss the way forward in the field.

The need in the revised and updated international recommendations for energy statistics
Vladimir Markhonko: Chief, Trade Statistics Branch, United Nations Statistics Division

This presentation will describe the historical background that lead to the preparation of international recommendations for energy statistics, the work that has been done so far in advancing the field and the major challenges that are faced in the development of an internationally agreed document for energy statistics.

The Oslo Group- how to develop official energy statistics
Olav Ljones: Assistant Director General, Statistics Norway

This presentation will describe the advantages of making energy statistics and integral part of official statistics and suggest ways on how to make progress in this direction.
