This quick reference tool has been prepared by the Statistics Division to define key terms used in the fields of environmental statistics, indicators of sustainable development and integrated environmental and economic accounting. It presents concepts and definitions for these rapidly developing new areas of applied statistics, covering 1,200 terms referring to environmental elements of air/climate, land, soil, water and ecosystems and related socioeconomic concerns such as natural resource use, waste management, public health, human settlements and the effects of natural disasters.
