30 Chief Statisticians called on Vice Premier Li Keqiang of China

On 28th September, 2011, Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang met with the Director-Generals of national statistical offices from 30 countries and international organizations who were attending the International Forum on Monitoring National Development: Issues and Challenges.

Vice Premier Li Keqiang pointed out that difficulties in the current international economic environment and observed that the level of uncertainties have increased significantly. Under these circumstances, strengthening the monitoring of statistics and providing correct, complete and timely information would offer a scientific basis for decision-making.

The international forum was jointly organized by the National Bureau of Statistics of China (NBS), the United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD) and the World Bank (WB), from 27 to 29 September 2011 in Beijing, China. The Forum focused on problems and challenges in monitoring national development. Participants from over 50 countries and international organizations had in-depth discussions on how to better apply statistics to monitoring a country's economic growth, social development and environmental changes. They also discussed priority issues in official statistics in monitoring national development and an action plan for the global statistical community.
