Glossary of the 1993 SNA - Definition of Term

TermRebasing
DefinitionIn the course of time, the pattern of relative prices in the base period tends to become progressively less relevant to the economic situations of later periods to the point at which it becomes unacceptable to continue using them to measure volume measures from one period to the next; it may then be necessary to update the base period, a process which is commonly referred to as “rebasing”.
