Posted - 27/05/2005 : 17:29:34 In the European region, they are proposing that the definition of a population and housing census be based on the product or output produced, rather than on the methodology used. Thus, for example, “the population census is defined as the operation that produces at regular intervals the official counting (or benchmark) of the population in the territory of a country …” This would suggest that any operation that results in this product could be called a census.
To what extent can this be adopted at the global level? Is this a useful definition for other regions?
