Global review of the
JODI Gas Manual
In response to the need for short-term statistics on natural gas, the partner
organizations of the Joint Organizations Data Initiative (JODI) - APEC, Eurostat, IEA,
IEF, OLADE, OPEC and UNSD - started in 2009 on a trial basis to collect monthly data on
natural gas based on a simple questionnaire that covers
the major flows of natural gas.
To this day, about 70 countries are submitting JODI Gas data covering about two thirds of the global
supply and demand.
The JODI Gas Manual has been prepared by UNSD in close cooperation with JODI partner
organizations to provide:
- Guidance on the reporting in the JODI Gas Questionnaire
- Reference for concepts and definitions
- Examples of data collection and validation methods
- Examples of country practices in the collection of JODI gas data
The JODI Gas Manual is intended to be used by compilers and users of monthly gas data.
The definitions presented in the JODI Gas Manual are fully consistent with the definitions
presented in the International
Recommendations for Energy Statistics (IRES).
The current draft is the result of a number of technical discussions and rounds of
consultations with JODI partner organizations and it is now available for a global review by
users and producers of monthly natural gas data, including
national administrations currently submitting data and participants of the Gas Data Transparency
The draft JODI Gas Manual is open for a global review from 1 July to 31 August 2013 to receive
further feedback, in particular, but not exclusively, on the following:
Is the guidance provided in the JODI Gas Manual clear enough?
Can the specifications for the reporting be easily met?
Is there additional guidance needed? For which topics?
To send your comments, please complete the feedback form and send it to firstname.lastname@example.org
