February 2006
UNSD Work Programme on Economic Census
The United Nations Statistical Commission, at its thirty-seventh session in March 2006, endorsed the United Nations Statistics Division’s initiative to promote an integrated approach to compilation of economic statistics. It further recommended that good practices in this area be identified, documented and made available to the interested countries to assist in their practical work.
In view of these tasks, UNSD carried out a survey in 2006 to identify countries’ general policies with regard to the economic censuses and other approaches to compilation of basic economic statistics. A total of 114 countries responded to the questionnaire, which formed the basis of the background note presented to the Statistical Commission at its thirty-eighth session in February 2007.
