Natality

Collection and dissemination of data from the Demographic Yearbook

The United Nations Statistics Division collects data on natality through the Demographic Yearbook data collection system.

The two questionnaires used are:

-
Vital Statistics Questionnaire (PDF 128 KB)
-
Population Census Questionnaire (PDF 146 KB)

Twenty tables on fertility, natality and foetal deaths, cross-tabulated by various social and demographic characteristics, such as age of mother, sex of child, birth order, etc. are collected through these questionnaires. These tables are then disseminated in the special editions of the Demographic Yearbook dedicated to the topics of natality, fertility and mortality, and population census statistics. Detailed statistics on natality were published by the United Nations Statistics Division in two issues of the Demographic Yearbook: 1999 and 1986. Print copies of the Demographic Yearbook can be purchased through the UN Publications Order Form.

The most recent technical reports review the collection and dissemination of data on fertility within the Demographic Yearbook.
