Households and families
Collection and dissemination of data from the Demographic Yearbook
 
The United Nations Statistics Division collects data on households and families from population and housing censuses and vital statistics systems through the Demographic Yearbook data collection system.
The two questionnaires used are:
- Population Census Questionnaire on Household Characteristics (PDF 52 KB)
- Population Census Questionnaire (PDF 146 KB)
 

Ten tables on family and household characteristics are collected through these questionnaires. These tables are then disseminated in the special editions of the Demographic Yearbook dedicated to the topics of household composition, marriage and divorce, ageing, and population census statistics. Two issues of the Demographic Yearbook have been dedicated to the topic of household composition. These were published in 1995 and 1987 respectively. Print copies of the Demographic Yearbook can be purchased through the UN Publications Order Form.
