Data Capture and Processing in the 2006 Population and Housing Census in Nigeria

This paper describes the data processing methodology adopted for Nigeria’s Population and Housing Census 2006. It particularly focuses on data capture and first level editing carried out at the Data Processing Centres (DPCs) using Intelligent Character Recognition (ICR) and Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology. It briefly touches on second level editing at the Data Validation Unit (DVU) based at National Population Commission (NPopC) headquarters, Abuja.
