This paper by Lene Mikkelsen of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) describes the experience of countries in the region with regard to the 2000 round of censuses as well as plans for the next round. The paper is based on a survey conducted by UNESCAP in preparation of the 2010 World Programme on Population and Housing Censuses to assess meta information and plans with regard to censuses in the Asia-Pacific region. Paper presented at the United Nations Symposium on Population and Housing Censuses, New York, 13-14 September 2004.
