In Mozambique, the regular interval between censuses is of ten years. The 2007 census covered the whole country, and to assure the simultaneity of the census, a time reference for the Mozambique Census was established as 1st August 2007 (at zero hours). In 2007, the population of Mozambique is estimated at 20,366,795 inhabitants. The presentation will give an overview of the census 2007 and outline the administrative organization of the census which involved the creation of executive organs at the national, subnational, and local levels, since the execution of the census was decentralized.
Paper presented at the Seminar on recent experiences in Population and Housing Census, a side event of the 39th session of the Statistical Commission, New YOrk (26-29 Feb. 2008).

Public relations during the Census 2002 in The former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia

This paper by the State Statistical Office of the Republic of Macedonia (SSORM) describes the experiences of the agency concerning public relations activities in the census 2002.

Paper presented at the Joint ECE-EUROSTAT Work Session on Population and Housing Censuses (Ohrid, The former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, 21-23 May 2003).

Report on Census Publicity Research Study - Feb/Mar 2005

This paper by Statistics South Africa is part of the research activities of the Research and Methodology component within the Population Census Inputs and Outputs division at Statistics South Africa. This research report relates to the Census Publicity Research project that was conducted during February and March 2005. This survey investigated respondents’ decision-making with regard to participation in population censuses. The survey was preceded by focus group discussions to inform the design of the questionnaire.
Some of the key questions that had to be answered by respondents through this research were:
- How do data providers interpret concepts such as privacy, confidentiality, disclosure, data sharing, and statistical purposes?
- How do different formats and modes of presentation influence their decisions onparticipation in censuses and surveys?
- What kinds of information about themselves they consider to be most sensitive?
- How do their reactions vary by population group, gender, and socio-economic status?

Population and Housing Census in Ghana

The paper presents the experience from the 2000 census in Ghana including problems encountered as well as preparations for the 2010 census. The term “stakeholders” is used to describe those who are involved in the conduct of the census, especially current or potential users of census data. They include federal, provincial, territorial and municipal governments; private-sector companies; academic teachers and researchers; libraries; non-governmental organizations; media and the general public. The involvement of stakeholders in the census is essential at every step of the census process, from content determination to dissemination of products and services.
Paper presented at the Symposium on Global Review of 2000 Round of Population and Housing Censuses: Mid-Decade Assessment and Future Prospects, New York, 7-10 August 2001.

Public relations to reinforce relevance to ordinary population

This paper describes shortly the public relations activities to reinforce the relevance and importance of censuses to the general population.
The paper is an excerpt from: United Nations (2001).
