Building on a new data set for the time span 1980-2011, it is discussed: the trends of household financial assets in the last thirty years, the reasons for the differences across countries, the tendency towards convergence, the economic interpretation of breaks in time series and the effects of the recent financial crisis. Comments on the evolution of household debt and real assets are offered. In discussing the empirical evidence, the paper summarises the recent literature on household wealth.

Rebasing the Output Price Index of newly built dwellings, 2005=100 - Netherlands (2009)

Statistics Netherlands calculates a quarterly output price index of newly built dwellings (O-PINW) to monitor developments in the prices of newly built dwellings in the Netherlands. For non-national accountants, the compilation of national accounts statistics is usually a mystic and incomprehensible process. The literature on national accounts compilation methods and the reliability of national accounts statistics is very limited. At the time of the preparation of this Handbook, the revision of the methodology of the Economic Accounts for Agriculture (EAA), as a consequence of the revision of the European System of Accounts, has been concluded. With the re-basing of the EU Agricultural Price Indices to the base 1995 = 100, the methodology of EU Agricultural Price Statistics has been adapted in order to be more consistent with the new accounts methodology.

Custodian: Eurostat

Manual on the economic accounts for agriculture and forestry EAA/EA 97 (Rev. 1.1) - Eurostat (2000)

This publication contains the revised methodology on the Economic Accounts for Agriculture and Forestry (EAA/EAF) which is close to the methodology of the national accounts (ESA 95) but incorporates a number of changes to take account of the special features of the agricultural economy. Compared to the previous edition (Revision 1) of the EAA/EAF manual, the present version (EAA 97, Revision 1.1) includes new chapters on the valuation of the accounts at constant prices and on the unit values of agricultural products. The most recent of developments have also been taken into account; these concern the coverage of intra-unit consumption, the breakdown of intermediate consumption as well as the EAA/EAF questionnaire. Nevertheless, it should be noted that all these changes are of a technical nature and thus do not affect the basic methodology described in the previous (Revision 1) version.

Custodian: Eurostat

Handbook for EU agricultural price statistics, Version 2.0 - Eurostat (2008)

This handbook covers Eurostat’s “EU Agricultural Price Indices (output and input)” and its “Statistics on Absolute Agricultural Prices“. The main use for absolute agricultural prices is to compare price levels between Member States and to study sales channels. On the other hand, agricultural price indices are used primarily to analyse price developments and the effect on agricultural income. The last consolidated handbook covering both Agricultural Price Indices and Absolute Prices was published in 2002 and was followed by a revised version covering only Agricultural Price Indices in January 2005. The methodology of EU Agricultural Price Statistics (version 1.0 February 2002) was updated to incorporate the changes in data collection of Agricultural price indices from monthly to quarterly indices and the latest decisions regarding the collection of annual absolute prices using a reduced list of variables since July 2005.

Custodian: Eurostat
