BACKGROUND
The Evidence and Data for Gender Equality (EDGE) project is a joint initiative of the United Nations Statistics Division and UN Women that seeks to improve the integration of gender issues into the regular production of official statistics for better, evidence-based policies.
OBJECTIVES
EDGE aims to accelerate existing efforts to generate internationally comparable gender indicators on health, education, employment, entrepreneurship and asset ownership in three key ways:
- Developing an online interactive platform to disseminate gender-relevant data and metadata on education, employment, and health in line with the Minimum Set of Gender Indicators
- Developing methodological guidelines on measuring asset ownership from a gender perspective that was presented to the UN Statistical Commission in 2017
- Providing technical support to countries to implement the EDGE methodological guidelines
PARTNERS
To achieve these goals, the EDGE project works with National Statistical Offices, regional commissions, and international agencies, including the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the African Development Bank (AfDB), the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO), the International Labour Organisation (ILO), the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the World Bank.
EDGE is guided by a Steering Committee composed of members of the Inter-Agency and Expert Group on Gender Statistics (IAEG-GS) and is funded by Australia, Canada, Germany, Ireland, the Republic of Korea and the United States.
