Annual Questionnaire on Energy Statistics
The Annual Questionnaire on Energy Statistics is part of the regular UNSD data collection programme. It covers statistics on production, conversion and consumption of energy resources and products.
The UNSD Annual Questionnaire on Energy Statistics is the primary source of information for the UNSD Energy Statistics Database and contributes to the Energy Statistics Yearbook and the Energy Balances and Electricity Profiles. The Energy Statistics Yearbook provides comparable data on long-term trends in the supply of energy. The Energy Balances and Electricity Profiles presents: (a) energy balances for developing countries and territories showing an overall picture of energy production, trade, conversion and consumption; and (b) electricity profiles for developed and developing countries and territories showing detailed information on production, trade and consumption of electricity, net installed capacity and thermal power plant inputs and efficiencies.
The Annual Energy Statistics Questionnaire has been revised to reflect the recommendations ontained in the International Recommendations for Energy Statistics (IRES), which was adopted by the United Nations Statistical Commission in February 2011, and to harmonize data collection across international organizations.
The Annual Questionnaire on Energy Statistics was sent to countries in April, 2016. Countries are asked to report data for 2014 and revisions for previous years if necessary. For the past two years, the Questionnaire spreadsheet has been divided into five tabs to aid navigation. The Questionnaire will contribute to the next editions of Energy Statistics Yearbook and the Energy Balances and the Electricity Profiles. The Questionnaire is currently officially available only in English and it is being translated into Arabic, Chinese, Spanish, French and Russian. The unofficial Arabic translation has been provided by the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia. The translated Questionnaires will be posted as soon as they become available.
